In silver gilt, a red enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials, the obverse medallion features a superimposed bust of St. Gregory on a blue enamel field, surrounded by a ring inscribed ST. GREGORIUS MAGNUS, the reverse presents the inscription PRO DEO ET PRINCIPE (For God and Ruler), on a blue enamelled field, surrounded by the inscription GREGORIUS XVI. P. M. ANNOI., the badge is surmounted by a
